It's a Small World....After All !

A few Sunday nights ago, my wife and I spent a delightful 2 hours at a back yard Bar-B-Q hosted by two of our friends—where 13 of us from our church were privileged to be their guests, along with 50 others from the Cherokee Street neighborhood.

Our friends had gone door to door inviting their whole neighborhood and 63 people showed up! It was so exciting to meet new acquaintances, make new friends, recognize others from our community, and to discover that we had a network of mutual friendships with some of those present.

One guy brought a Merry-Go-Round on the back of a trailer. Abby and her new friends rode that thing the whole time we were there! The only time they took a break, was to eat a hotdog or two!

From the back of his truck, the owner played carousel music. One selection was especially significant to me. “It’s A Small World….. After All !” Quite fitting for a Small Group Block Party— don’t you think?

Anyone out there who knows the lyrics to the song and would like to comment on how they apply to our small group experiecnes ?

Here are the lyrics so people can start to talk about what this means to our group efforts. Just to get the copyright stuff out of the way, please don't copy this and try to make money from it! It was written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman

It's A Small World After All

It's a world of laughter
A world of tears
It's a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all

There is just one moon
And one golden sun
And a smile means
Friendship to ev'ryone
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all

It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world

This should be our theme song...we should be offering of ourselves to those who are tired, wiped out, weary, weepy, afraid, etc. We should invite them into a place of laughter and joy and peace and love. The song says there is only one moon and only one sun but there is truly only one God who hung them in place...He's the one that we worship and it's His work we need to be about. If you haven't ridden on this ride at the Magic Kingdom lately, I suggest you do so...many nations all together singing the same song. Let's all get unified and sing the same song, in our place of love and peace.

God bless you each and every one

Jon
